Buddhists and Christians Engage Structural Greed

Martin Sinaga, Editor

“The global financial crisis has left large numbers of people around the world distraught, devastated and robbed of their human dignity.” Such strong affirmations coming from the World Council of Churches and The Lutheran World Federation gave rise to the possibility of partnership by these two global ecclesial bodies to engage with Buddhist colleagues in seeking out ways of addressing the question of structural greed. At the invitation of these two Christian organizations, leaders and scholars from several Buddhist traditions as well as from several Christian ones, gathered in Chiang Mai, Thailand in August 2010. This volume contains papers presented at that consultation which sought to address the question of structural greed as a spiritual and moral crisis.
