December 7, 1941, was a seminal date for young men and women associated with Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, as well as thousands of others throughout the United Sates. As they heard the incredible news that Japan had bombed Pearl Harbo, they knew they would be called to action and great sacrifice. In this book Concordia Cobbers, after more than sixty years, tell of their experiences. With amazing clarity, deep humility, and the benefit of time and perspective their stores are powerful. Truly, they are examples of the Greatest Generation.
A college with a student body of 300 to 400 students in the 1940s, Concordia College lists more than 700 Cobbers who were involved in the war effort. The effect on the campus was such that one professor is quoted as addressing the student-body saying, “Ladies and three gentlemen.”
