The Legacy and Promise of Lutheran Pension and Benefit Plans
Lowell G. Almen
|
This book is the result of research that surveyed more than two centuries of history of Lutheran pension plans and focusing on the Board of Pensions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in its first 20 years. The survey of nearly 250 years of U.S. Lutheran endeavors for the care of clergy and their families, while commissioned by the Board of Pensions, does not represent an "official" history.
The book enables the reader to explore the unfolding saga of more than two centuries of Lutheran care for pastors, church workers, and their families in pension and benefit plans.
The Rev. Lowell G. Almen has a long history in the Lutheran Church. A graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota and Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota he was ordained by The American Lutheran Church. In 1988 he was elected Secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a position he held until his retirement in 2007.
AUTHOR HONORED: The Concordia Historical Institute has voted to honor the Rev. Lowell G. Almen, former secretary of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, for his work as author of the book, More to the Story: The Legacy and Promise of Lutheran Pension and Benefit Plans.
The institute said Almen’s book was selected “after careful consideration” because it serves “as an award-winning example of material produced to further the understanding of American Lutheranism.”
