Lutheran University Press is a privately-owned, independent publisher. The imprint was established in 2000 in response to requests by individuals and Lutheran educational institutions for assistance in publishing their manuscripts.
The owners, Leonard Flachman and Karen Walhof, have a combined eighty-five years in Lutheran publishing careers. They own another popular imprint, Kirk House Publishers, which was established in 1994. They know the publishing industry, the technologies, and the Lutheran constituencies they serve. The press has published authors who are teaching in institutions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Church of the Lutheran Brethren, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada; and in partner churches in Sweden, Ghana, India, Tanzania, and Ethiopia, as well as Lutherans teaching in many non-Lutheran institutions.
Lutheran University Press has relationships with the major U.S.A. bookseller chains, independent booksellers, and on-line booksellers, as well as religious book distributors in the U.S.A., Australia, and Canada. Via Scholars Choice and other exhibit firms, books can be displayed at most major U.S.A. discipline-specific conferences and conventions.
Located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lutheran University Press has titles translated into several languages. Many of the press titles also are found on Amazon.de (Germany), Amazon.fr (France), Amazon.jp (Japan), and Amazon.co.uk (United Kingdom). In addition individual titles are available on hundreds of other special-interest websites.
