The Lutheran University Press publishing paradigm is designed to provide options for bringing the work of authors and institutions to publication.
• |
Royalty Publishing |
|
The publisher funds the production and marketing of the author’s work and enters into a royalty publishing contract with the author. |
• |
Partnership Publishing |
|
The author or sponsoring institution partners with the publisher to edit, produce, and market books that may be created for a specific institutional or classroom purpose, i.e., an institutional history, a gift to donors, a text for a specific class, etc.). |
• |
Subsidy Publishing |
|
The author or sponsoring institution assists in funding the publication of a book, especially those that have a limited market. Creative funding avenues are always explored. |
• |
A Thesis/Dissertation Series |
|
The dissertation series is designed to make available to peers the research and work completed in satisfaction of advanced degrees. Copies are sent at no charge to the libraries of the ELCA colleges, universities, and seminaries. The book is placed in the Lutheran University Press online catalog and on Amazon.com. |
In this publishing paradigm every book is viewed as unique, with its own market niche. The author is key in creating a marketing plan. The author had a particular audience in mind while writing the book and is familiar with the discipline or constituency for whom the book is intended. The success of a book depends on how well the publisher and the author are able to devise strategies to reach that audience.
